Crime Numbers
The Maryland Department of State Police publishes annual crime data for all counties in Maryland. Its latest report shows that there were 322 violent crimes and 2,171 property crimes in Cecil County in 2017. Compared to the crime statistics for 2013, these figures represent 30.1% and 27.9% dips in violent crime and property crime rates respectively.
The MDSP 2017 annual crime report reveals that law enforcement agencies recorded 3 murder, 15 rapes, 69 robberies, and 235 aggravated assaults in Cecil County. Reported incidences of property crimes include 479 burglaries, 1,549 larceny-thefts, and 143 motor vehicle thefts. The five-year crime trend for Cecil County shows that murder (66.7%), and motor vehicle theft (28.8%) rates went up between 2013 and 2017. In the same period, rape (42.3%), robbery (19.8%), aggravated assault (26.3%), burglary (40.6%), and larceny (20.9%) rates went down.

To obtain criminal history records for Cecil County, the county Sheriff's Office offers LiveScan services which electronically submits fingerprints to the Maryland Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Central Repository. Funds may be deposited into the inmate's account during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or during visiting hours, in the lobby kiosk. Funds may also be deposited online or by phone at (866) 345-1884.
The Cecil County Detention Centre's Administration recommends that funds be placed in the inmates account by 8:30 a.m. on Sunday in order to meet the commissary deadline for each week. Administration does not accept money orders, checks or any form of money but insists all funds go through the Access Secure Deposits kiosk, website or phone number.

Vital Records
Certified copies of birth and death certificates from 1939 to present for Cecil County are available from the Office of Vital Records of the county's Health Department. For persons born prior to 1939, certified copies of the birth records are available from the Division of Vital Records in Baltimore, Maryland.
To obtain copies of birth or death certificates from Cecil County Health Department, download and complete an Application for Certified Copy of Maryland Birth Record or an Application for Certified Copy of Maryland Death Record. A copy costs $25 and each additional copy costs $20. Payment forms accepted are cash, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Applicants may be required to present a valid government-issued photo ID. The Office of Vital Records is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Maryland Department of Health verifies divorces that occurred on or after January 1, 1992, and issues certified copies of marriage certificates that occurred on or after January 1, 2007. To obtain certified copies for marriages performed before January 1, 2007, and divorce verifications, contact the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court in Cecil County. Payment forms accepted are cash, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
