However, individuals may be able to view marriage records on public self-service computers at the County Clerk of Circuit Court offices. To access this service, the requesting party may visit the office during working hours and enter the full name of the subject(s) of the record into the search bar provided on the computer. These are likely to provide the complete public records associated with the individual being searched. However, requestors who require copies will be required to purchase them for a nominal fee. Additional costs will be accrued for a certified copy.

How to Change Your Name After Marriage in Maryland

Newly married parties who want to change their name after marriage in Maryland must first locate their marriage license. Parties will then need to officially contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) to confirm their name change after marriage. To obtain certified copies of a marriage certificate in Maryland, send a request to the Division of Vital Records of the Maryland Department of Health. This Division only provides copies of Maryland marriage certificates issued from January 1, 2007 to date. Marriage certificates prepared prior to this date are available at the various Clerk of Circuit Court’s Office in the state. Applicants should request these at the counties of where the respective marriage licenses were issued or from the Maryland State Archives.

The Division of Vital Records accepts mail, online, and in-person requests for marriage certificates. It charges $12 for each certified copy and this fee is payable by cash, check, or money order. Each request must include a check or money order covering the total fee for the number of copies needed. When submitting a mail request, send a completed Application for Certified Copy of Maryland Marriage Record (Spanish/English version) along with the fee and a photocopy of a government-issued photo ID or two acceptable documents.

To obtain copies of a Maryland marriage certificate issued earlier than 2007, apply to the Clerk of Circuit Court in the county of marriage. Procedures, processing times, working hours, payment methods, and addresses differ by county, but the fee per request is uniform: $5.50 per certified copy. What is Considered a Marriage License in Maryland?

Maryland Marriage licenses are vital documents authorizing two prospective spouses to wed. It usually features the groom’s name, bride’s maiden name, marriage location, and the date and place the license was issued.
